PLATFORM LOCATOR FAQs

Q. How we collect the platform data?

  • RailYatri Platform Locator is based on the crowd-sourced data inputs collected over a long duration from fellow RailYatri passengers. With any crowd-sourced data comes some bad data which we weed out time to time using our in-house cleansing algorithm.
  • Q. Why wrong platform numbers?

  • All the trains are being provided with a designated platform numbers at all stations on it’s route, however, intermittently we observe discrepancies and that doesn’t mean the information is incorrect. Here is reason for the disparity on ground conditions on a given day such as:
    1. An another 'delayed' train occupying the platform
    2. Maintenance work on a platform or on track
    3. Scheduling issues due to other special trains makes the designated platform unavailable on that day.
  • In such situations, the local authorities have to make a runtime decision to allocate a different platform to the train.
  • Q. Does the reshuffling happens with all the stations?

  • It has been observed that a major reshuffling of platform number happens only on stations with the following attributes-
    1. Stations with heavy train movement and footfall.
    2. Stations that are not terminus or terminals i.e. busy junctions.
    3. Stations with more than 6-8 platforms.
  • WHAT WE RECOMMEND

While our users often report about the high accuracy of our platform locator data, please consider this information as indicative considering the unforeseen changes and we recommend you to re-confirm the information at the station.
