Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Situated on the western bank of holy River Ganga, Kashi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva whos is also known as Vishwanatha or Vishweshwarar. The presiding Jyotirlinga in the temple is considered as the 12th of all the Jyotirlingas in the country.

Visit Tulsi Manasa Temple

Constructed in 1964, this temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is named after the saint poet Tulsi Das. It displays the Shikhara style of architecture and exhibits various inscriptions from the Ram Charit Manas, on the walls of the temple.

Open Timings: 05:30 AM - 12 PM, 4 PM - 9 PM

Tip: The temple is a must visit during the months of Saawan (July - August) when it opens up a special display of puppets, related to Ramayana, and is a fun experience.

Visit Sankat Mochan Temple

The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is situated by the River Assi and was built in the 1900 by the freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. It is dedicated to Lord Rama and Hanuman.

Tip

  • Do not forget to taste the laddoo offered at this temple.
  • Beware of the monkeys.

Visit Man Mandir Obesrvatory

Man Mandir Observatory is located at Man Mandir Ghat on the banks of River Ganga.  The observatory was built in 1737 A.D by Sawai Jai Singh II. It has a unique equatorial sundial which is functional and facilitates measurements to be observed and recorded. You can also visit the palace, Man Mahal, located adjacent to the Man Mandir Observatory.

Visit Dasashwamedh Ghat

As the name suggests, it is believed that this is the place where Lord Brahma performed the Dasa Ashwamedha sacrifice. This is the most happening ghat amongst all the 80 ghats in Varanasi.

Tip: Visit here at the time of Kartik Purnima and witness a celestial manifestation of the city gleaming with lights - Dev Deepavali.

Attend Ganga Aarti at Dasashwamedh Ghat

You can enjoy the evening aarti held here. Little oil lamps are floated on the river which is a beautiful sight to watch. Watching the Ganga Aarti is an experience which cannot be explained in words. When in Varanasi, make sure not to miss this calming experience.

Visit Bade Hanuman Temple

The Bade Hanumanji Mandir has a large 20 ft. long and 8 ft. wide idol of Lord Hanuman in a reclining position. It is believed that the water of the river Ganges rises to touch the feet of the Lord Hanuman’s idol.

Anand Bhavan is the former residence of Nehru family, that has now been transformed into a museum showcasing various artefacts and articles during the independence movement in India. You can also visit the Swaraj Bhawan, the prior residence of Nehru's family which is situated close-by.

Visit All Saint's Cathedral


Designed by Sir William Emerson in 1870, All Saint's Cathedral is also referred to as 'Patthar Girja' locally. This church is regarded as the best Anglican cathedral not only in India but also in Asia. A feast for the eyes, this cathedral lies in the middle of verdant surroundings and should be visited at least once while travelling to this city.

Experience sunrise at Assi Ghat

RailYatri cab will drive you to the Assi Ghat.

The Assi Ghat is placed at the confluence of the Rivers Assi and Ganga and is famous for the large Shiva Lingam installed under a peepal tree. Enjoy a pleasant view of the sunrise via a boat ride till Manikarnika ghat and then back to Assi. What a peaceful sojourn it would be!

Visit Chaukhandi Stupa


A significant Buddhist stupa in Sarnath, Chaukhandi Stupa is a terraced temple built during the 4th century. It marks the ground where Lord Buddha and his first disciples met while travelling from Bodh Gaya. The stupa is a site of national importance. Close to the stupa, one can also see ruins of monasteries with some courtyards and verandas that are still recognisable.

Visit Sarnath Museum and Ashoka Pillar

With more than 6,000 sculptures and artworks, the Sarnath Museum is similar to a monastery in structure. The massive complex has five different galleries showcasing artifacts from 3rd century BC to 12th century AD. It also consists of Dhamek Stupa and the Ashoka Pillar - The national emblem of India and a mark of Emperor Ashoka's visit to Sarnath.

Visit Bharat Mata Mandir

Unlike the other temples, Bharat Mata Temple does not enshrine any particular God or Goddess. It is a temple dedicated to Bharat Mata or Mother India. There is a relief map of the undivided India carved in white marble.  It stands on 5 distinct pillars and each of these pillars symbolises earth, wind, fire, water and sky, the five basic elements of creation respectively.

Tucked away on Dashaswmedh Road, Deena Chat Bhandar is the best spot for lip-smacking chaat and quick snacks. A must-try on its menu is the palak chaat which serves fried spinach along with sev, curd. Gorge onto the 'Malaiyyos', a milk treat and finish it off well with an awesome paan at Deepak Tambul Bhandar.
