Visit Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple

Also known as Katra Keshav Dev temple, this place is the actual birthplace of Lord Krishna. The temple has been divided into 3 parts - Garbhagriha (actual site of birth), Keshavadeva and the Bhagvata Bhavan. Another temple, dedicated to the Ashthabhuja Ma Yogmaya stands near the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.

Many devotees throng to this temple during Janmashtami. Holi is also celebrated here with great pomp.

Visit Dwarkadheesh Temple

Located near the banks of river Yamuna, the main deity of the temple is Lord Dwarkadheesh, a form of Lord Krishna. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture, carvings, and paintings. The idol of Lord Dwarkadheesh is made from shiny black stone. It has four hands carrying a mace, a Sudarshana Chakra, a conch and a lotus flower.

Visit Birla Temple

Also known as Gita Mandir, this temple features a magnificent idol of Lord Krishna and is housed inside the temple along with Lakshmi Narayana, Ram and Sita. The temple also houses Lord Krishna's Chariot and Gita Stambh which has the entire carvings of Bhagavad Gita.

There is also a small temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman within the premises.

Visit Mathura Museum

Founded in 1874, Mathura museum is one of the leading centres for research and the preservation of the heritage left by the Mathura School of Sculpture. The museum is famous for ancient sculptures of the Mathura, dating from 3rd century BC to 12th century AD. Some of the prominent include the statues of headless figure of Kanishka, standing Buddha and mother goddess along with the memorials of Sunga period are worth watching.

Visit Vishram Ghat

Vishram Ghat is the main ghat of Mathura and is central to 25 other ghats. According to the legends, Lord Krishna is said to have rested at this place after killing Kansa. You can visit these temples that are lined at the ghat: Mukut Temple, Radha-Damodar, Murali Manohar, Neelkantheshwar, Yamuna-Krishna, Langali Hanuman and Narasimha temple.

You can enjoy the evening aarti held here. Little oil lamps are floated on the river which is a beautiful sight to watch.

On the occasion of Bhaiduj or Yama Dwitiya (3rd day after Diwali), it is considered auspicious for brother-sister duo to take a holy dip on the ghat.

Besides Holi, Jhulan Yatra, the swing festival of Lord Krishna, is the grandest of festivals celebrated here.

Visit Govind Deo Temple

The Govind De Temple is an astonishingly beautiful seven-storey temple dedicated to Govind Dev, another name for Lord Krishna. This temple reflects the architectural elements of Western, Hindu and Muslim style. The temple has an impressive sanctum of marble and silver. The ceiling of the main hall is decorated with a sculptured lotus weigh several tons.

Visit ISKCON Temple

Also known as Sri Krishna-Balaram Mandir, this is one of the main ISKCON temples in India. It was the first temple to be constructed by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The beautiful white marbled temple has three sanctums. The presiding deity of the temple is of Lord Krishna-Balaram, which is housed under the central shrine of the temple.

Janmashtami and Radha Ashtami are the main festivals celebrated here.

Visit Sri Rangaji Temple

Sri Ranganath or Rangaji Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi. The deity in the temple is called Sri Ranganatha and is represented in sleeping posture on Shesh Nag. There is also a temple tank and a beautiful garden within the temple premises. At the entrance, there is an electronic puppet show and a small museum.

Note: The temple celebrates Brahmotsavam, a 10-day festival in the month of March / April.

The temple is an impressive, beautiful monument and is an example of fine creation.

Shahji Temple was designed and built in 1860 by Shah Kundan Lal of Lucknow. The deity of Lord Krishna here is known as Chhote Radha Raman. This white coloured temple exhibits artistic craftsmanship. Another highlight of this temple is Basanti Kamra, a darbar hall featuring Belgian glass chandeliers and beautiful paintings. The room is opened twice a year but it is still fascinating to peek from outside.
